Research
The Lahey Emergency Department are immersed in a variety of research topics below. We are committed to high impactful innovative research as investigators.
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)
In the POCUS space, we have specialized in many different modalities including artificial intelligence, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks as well as bowel ultrasound. Specifically, investigators have both state and federal NIH funding to develop algorithms alongside clinical engineers.
Lahey Clinic is the home of the Ultrasound-Guided Nerve Block (UGNB) repository assisting investigators determine the efficacy and safety of UGNB's nationally.
Emergency Airway
The largest airway repository for ED physicians is now housed at Lahey Clinic. Dr. Brown's work is nationally recognized for both his research efforts as well as his educational initiatives with the "The Difficult Airway," course.
Sepsis
In the ED, sepsis represents one of the most variable treated conditions with sepsis only being recognized upwards of 75% of the time. At Lahey, we are utilizing new technology and clinical decision tools for quality improvement in conjunction with NIH grants.
Laboratory Collaborations
Lahey Clinic collaborates with many hospitals across the country, but extensively with the airway course, Blockheads Massachusetts General Hospital as well as Brigham and Women's Hospital.
