Dr. Mackay has spent his career focusing on the intersection of critical illness with challenging hospital geographies. From post-intubation sedation and ventilator practices to timely identification and treatment of sepsis, his research is largely grounded in implementation science and pragmatic approaches to bringing good ICU/ critical care practices to patients, no matter where they are. In addition to research, he teaches research methods as well as point-of-care ultrasound within the PCCM fellowship. He joined the Lahey Clinic in 2017 as an EM/ICU hybrid, working for about 6 years 50% in both the MICU and the ED, though most of his clinical time is now within PCCM/ the MICU. He is excited to continue his research and formal education via the University of Massachusetts "Masters of Science and Clinical Investigation," the result of his successful K-12/ NIH grant, awarded spring of 2026. When not in the hospital, Fraser enjoys jogging, hiking, camping, and generally having fun outside with his wife (Kelly) and son (Everett).
