Your Training Ground
The Joseph C. Corkery Emergency Center at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is not just a state-of-the-art facility , it is the environment where you will become an excellent emergency physician.
Built specifically to meet the demands of high-acuity emergency care, the Corkery Emergency Center and the Emergency Center at Lahey Clinic in Peabody collectively see over 72,000 visits annually, delivering the volume and case complexity that defines excellent residency training. Every shift brings undifferentiated presentations, true resuscitations, and the kind of clinical decision-making that forges exceptional physicians.
As the only Level I Trauma Center north of Boston, Lahey is the destination for the region's most critically injured patients, serving hundreds of thousands of people across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire who have nowhere else to turn. When minutes matter, they come to us. As a resident, so will you.
The facility was designed with the practice of modern emergency medicine in mind. Four dedicated trauma bays with interconnecting passageways allow seamless multi-patient management and team-based resuscitation, exactly the environment where procedural confidence and clinical leadership are built. An advanced imaging suite with integrated CT and X-ray capability supports rapid, high-stakes diagnostic workup. Thirty-eight private patient rooms provide the space and privacy to conduct thorough assessments and have difficult conversations with patients and families, a skill as essential as any procedure.
The team you will join consists of full-time, board-certified emergency physicians and highly trained nursing staff who are as committed to your education as they are to patient care. This is not a place where residents are an afterthought, it is a place built for the next generation of emergency medicine.
