Theodore Macnow, MD

Dr. Theodore Macnow, MD grew up outside Philadelphia. He attended undergraduate and medical school at Tufts University. He completed a pediatrics residency at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York City and a pediatric emergency fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. He currently works as a pediatric emergency physician and is chief of the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department.  

Dr. Macnow​  has published on carbon monoxide poisoning in youth ice hockey players and management of carbon monoxide in the pediatric emergency department. He was the principle investigator of a randomized control trial published in JAMA Pediatrics on the effect of screen time on recovery from concussion.   He has other research publications in concussion, leviteracetam administration, Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression application in the pediatric ED, and multiple case reports.  He is the co-course director for a popular optional elective course at UMass Chan on responding to emergencies in the community.  He has published a review on responding to motor vehicle accidents in the community and frequently speaks about medical emergencies on commercial flights.

Ted lives in Wayland, MA with his wife, two sons, and two cats.  In his free time, he plays centerfield for the Base Invaders softball team and coaches his sons' baseball teams.  He also enjoys pick-up ice hockey, rock climbing, rollerblading, running, gardening, and barbequing.
