Research areas

Alopecia areata

We study how patients respond to JAK inhibitors in everyday practice, including what happens when they switch drugs or change doses. Recent work: switching JAK inhibitors and tofacitinib dose escalation.

Scarring alopecias

We run trials and cohort studies in lichen planopilaris, frontal fibrosing alopecia and CCCA. Recent work: delgocitinib cream in FFA and hairline stability in FFA. Dr. Senna also served on the expert panel for national consensus recommendations on CCCA treatment.

New therapies

We enroll patients in industry sponsored trials and lead our own studies of emerging treatments. See our current clinical trials.

Drug safety

We track hair loss linked to medications and supplements, and the safety of common hair loss treatments. Recent work: finasteride and dutasteride and breast and gynecologic cancer risk in women, oral minoxidil dosing and liver injury from turmeric supplements.

Access and equity

We study what hair loss care costs patients and how cost shapes treatment. Recent work: the financial burden of scarring alopecia.

Patient education

We write plain language guides and explain new research to the public. Read our hair loss conditions guide or see Dr. Senna in the media.
